How Yoga Gives You Better Sleep

Today insomnia and abnormal sleeping habits have become a very common problem. If you are not sleeping adequately then there is a possibility of confused mindset, thinking and extra stress. Sometimes this might also lead to illness. Therefore it becomes important to take a proper sleep.

Yoga becomes very helpful in the case of insomnia and abnormal sleeping habits. It helps us in getting rid all the stress at night and gives a proper sleep.

Most of the health-related problems originate due to unusual sleeping habits. So yoga is often recommended as the best treatment for all the health issues.


Yoga plays a very important role in removing stress. Half of the problems are concerned with stress. It has become a serious issue. Abnormal sleeping contributes in adding more to this problem. Thus stress can be cut off easily by proper yoga and exercising. It helps in quietening the mind and thus contributes to a better and peaceful sleep. Meditation helps a lot in getting rid of stress by putting all the focus at one point. This helps in removing all the distractions from the mind.


Nervous system plays an important role in providing a peaceful sleep at night. Yoga improves blood circulation to the nervous system which relaxes all the muscles and nerves. This gives a proper sleep.


One of the best benefits of yoga is that it rejuvenates the body by keeping all the body parts perfect. It increases the breathing activity and improves the blood circulation which plays a major role in providing a proper 6-8 hour sleep.

Following exercises are recommended for proper relaxation and sleep:
Forward bend (Hastapadasana): Includes stretching of back muscles, increases blood supply to the nervous system.



Cat Stretch (Marjariasana): improves digestion, relaxes the mind, improves blood circulation. It also makes the spine flexible by stretching it properly.


Child pose (Shishuasana): It includes stretching of back muscles and provides proper sleep.

Butterfly pose (Baddhakonasana): It includes stretching of knees and thigh muscles. It removes fatigue and provides proper rest.

Legs-up-the-wall poses (Viparitakarani): It includes lying down straight on the ground. Now lift up one leg and place the foot on the wall followed by the other leg. Now close your eyes and take deep breaths with both the feet resting on the wall. Keep doing this as much as you can comfortably.
